Gerry Esposito, The District Manager for Community Board 1, recently ran for City Council in the 34th District. His campaign was based around his ability to always help and do the right thing for members of his community, including measures like creating affordable housing and protecting tenants from eviction.
Gerry's Campaign was run by Gary Tilzer, Morgan Pehme, a prominent Brooklyn political blogger, and Evan Burr, a political consultant. We, the Gerry Esposito canvass staff were hired at a rate of $15 dollars an hour to cover the neighborhood in posters, talk to voters, and do canvassing. We performed these duties.
After the election ended and Gerry lost, we were informed that the campaign had not calculated its budget correctly and that we would instead only be getting $10 dollars an hour for our work, which had already been performed with the written understanding that we would be receiving $15 dollars an hour. For a candidate that claims to be for the working class, we find this rephrensible.
We will be filing a complaint with the New York City Campaign Finance Committee, are seeking legal counseling, and will be taking this story to the press. Everyone in the 34th District should know that Gerry Esposito is no friend to the working and middle class, and certainly does not follow fair labor practices. We would also encourage all future candidates to steer clear of Morgan Pehme, Gary Tilzer, and Evan Burr.
For Justice,
